Why Bar Made Easy

Bar Made Easy has unparalleled Bar Review Programs that are custom tailored to your specific needs and schedule.  Since most of our students are scattered throughout California and the United States, we offer live tutoring services to our students on a one-on-one basis in our Orange County, California office, or by telephone conferences and e-mails.  We provide constant support and encouragement to help you develop proper test-taking techniques in order for you to pass the California Bar Exam.  Remember, you can know the black letter law but if you cannot spot the issues in the exam, write a good analysis based on the facts and rules of law, and finish in the time allotted, you will not pass.

What Makes Bar Made Easy Unique

Bar Made Easy looks at EVERY exam you write and will comment on what you did well, what is missing in your work, and provide ideas on how to improve your skills.   When you apply the constructive feedback we give you to your next assignment, you will immediately notice an improvement in your test-taking abilities.  We will also teach you how to take a multistate question so that you stop selecting the second best answer.

Bar Made Easy assigns you essay exams, performance tests and/or multistate questions that are due at your next tutorial meeting.  We hold you accountable for your assignments because this is the only way you will improve.  Because we work so closely with you, you are motivated and encouraged to get your assignments done.

Some review courses may ask you to write and submit a handful of essays for critique.  In reality, even though students have the very best intentions to do so, very few students will actually write and submit their assignments.  Hence, most students will not develop strong test-taking skills; and, the probability of passing the California Bar Exam will be slim at best.

For students in other courses, who do submit their essays for review, they may not receive live feedback from an attorney instructor.  Usually there only receive written comments on the submission or a recorded critique that is sent to the student.  There is no opportunity to ask questions of the grader should the critique be unclear, not detailed enough, or if the critique raises new questions for the student.  Furthermore, there is no way to redress those issues.  While other courses offer detailed law lectures and essay reviews, they fall short on having you understand that practicing essay writing and multistate questions are the key to your success.

Why Live Tutoring

You are able to ask questions during your tutorial which is extremely important so that you truly understand what needs to be done when writing your next assignment for our review.  When you understand why you received the grade that you did, along with encouragement and feedback on how to improve, you will not make the same mistakes again.

 Why Simulated Bar Testing

Bar Made Easy provides simulated bar testing sessions to provide you with the “actual experience” so that the Bar exam itself will seem like another practice session with Bar Made Easy.  These simulated exams will also measure your progress.   It would be best to experience the panic of missing issues, writing a weak analysis, and/or running out of time in simulated situations rather than doing it during the actual Bar.  So, when you are ready to take the Bar, you will be both physically and mentally ready to pass it.  You will be very happy that you endured this training prior to your actual Bar Exam.

Bar Made Easy provides a one (1) day simulated Bar Exam to measure your progress to date and a three (3) day simulated Bar Exam, which gives you a valuable experience with six (6) hours of testing each day.  This simulated exam includes six (6) one hour essays, two (2) three hour Performance Exams and two-hundred (200) multistate bar tested questions.  Best to make your mistakes in practice and not on the actual Bar Exam.

What Our Program Includes

Our Bar Program includes everything you need to pass the California Bar exam including our excellent Issue Spotting Checklists/Outlines for all seventeen (17) subjects. Bar Helpful Information

Overview Of The California Bar ExamThe California Bar Exam is administered twice each year on the last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in February and July.  The three day examination has three parts: six essay questions, the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) which includes 200 questions, and two performance tests (PT’S). The parts of the examination may not be taken separately, and California does not accept the transfer of MBE scores from other jurisdictions.

On Tuesday and Thursday applicants have three hours to answer each set of three essay questions, which are administered during the morning sessions, and three hours for each PT, which are administered during the afternoon sessions. The essays and PT’s count for 65% of the total score. The MBE is administered on Wednesday. These questions are developed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners and the six-hour examination is divided into two three-hour sessions during which 100 questions are administered at each section. The MBE counts for 35% of the total score.

Essay Tested SubjectsThe exam currently tests on seventeen (17) different subject areas:

Constitutional Law (Federal)

Contracts (Common Law and Uniform Commercial Code)

Criminal Law and Procedure

Evidence (Federal Rules of Evidence and the California Evidence Code)

Real Property

Torts

Wills (California law)

Trusts

Civil Procedure (Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and the California Code of Civil Procedure)

Community Property (California law)

Professional Responsibility (ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct)

Business Associations (Corporations, Agency, all forms of Partnerships, and Limited Liability Entities)

Remedies

Bar candidates do not know which of the seventeen (17) subjects they will be tested on the essay portion of the exam.  While there are six (6) essays, more than six (6) subjects could be tested because there might be two or more subjects being tested on one exam.  Anyone may download for free prior tested bar essays and answers by visiting the State Bar of California website.  The provided answers are not professionally written answers but are two student answers that were written during the actual administration of the essays themselves.MBE Tested SubjectsConstitutional Law (Federal)

Contracts (Common Law and Uniform Commercial Code)

Criminal Law and Procedure

Evidence (Federal Rules of Evidence)

Real Property

Torts

Of the 200-question multiple choice exam, 190 questions are actually scored while 10 questions are unscored experimental questions.

Performance Exams (PT’S)The two PT examinations test applicant’s lawyering skills.  Since the substantive law is provided in the exam itself, applicants can rely on their general knowledge of the law and do not have to specifically study additional sections of law.   PT’s count for 26% of the 65% total essay score.  Each PT point value equates to the same point value as two regular essays.

Most Difficult Bar Exam In The USAIt is a well-known fact that the California Bar Exam is one of the most difficult bar exams in the United States.  California Governor Jerry Brown took the exam twice before passing and former California Governor Pete Wilson passed on his fourth attempt.  Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has yet to pass.  He stopped taking it after his fourth attempt.

Recent Passing RatesOur political leaders are not alone.  The California bar passing rates are the lowest in the country.   Take a look at the California passing rates for the past few years:

July 2010:  54.3%……………………………………..February 2010:  37.6%

July 2009:  55.5% …………………………………….February 2009:  34.5%

July 2008:  61.0% …………………………………….February 2008:  39.6%

July 2007:  55.3% …………………………………….February 2007:  37.5%

July 2006:  51.3% ……………………………………..February 2006:  40.0%

Why You Need A Bar Review ProgramThe California Bar Exam is a three-day comprehensive exam, which is unlike any other exam you have ever taken, with passing rates being the lowest in the country.  The State Bar of California assumes students know the black letter law.  While most students do know the law, more than half of the bar candidates fail the exam.  The reason is simple; students are being tested on their application of the law, not on their knowledge of the law.

Additionally, law schools teach students how to analyze cases like a lawyer but very few schools prepare their students for any bar exam. With personalized direction and support, the necessary test-taking skills you need in order to pass the California Bar Exam can be learned and mastered.
